COVID-19 is all over the news. This virus killed thousands of people. As of the moment, Worldometer recorded 2 million confirmed coronavirus cases all over the world, with over 120,00 deaths. What is the cause? Is there any way we can help slow down the increase of confirmed cases? Are we all at risk?
I know you all have the same questions in your mind. Our fears double as the cases continue to increase and the number of deaths grows each and every day. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person and was first recorded in Wuhan, a city located in Hubei province in China. According to the World Health Organization, the COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These tiny particles can infect people especially those with weak immune system.
COVID-19 affects people in different ways. Some show mild and moderate symptoms while others are asymptomatic and show no symptoms at all. But when tested, they are positive. People with chronic conditions and those over 60 years old are at a high-risk.
Here are the common symptoms that we should be mindful of:
Fever
Dry cough
Tiredness
Other symptoms include:
Shortness of breath
Aches and pains
Sore throat
and very few people will report diarrhea, nausea, or a runny nose.
If you experienced one of these symptoms or if you noticed your loved one showing those symptoms, you need to check with your doctor. The severe complications from this virus cause pneumonia in both lungs, multi-organ failure which can lead to death if not given the proper treatment.
To protect yourself and your loved ones from Coronavirus,
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
Cover your mouth and nose while sneezing or coughing
Avoid close contact with anyone who has a cold or flu-like symptoms
If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early

Aside from the ones mentioned above, the best weapon that we can use to fight against COVID-19 is a strong immune system. So eat healthy foods, exercise, and make sure that your body is complete with the nutrients it needs.
Now that most of us are required to stay home, it’s our responsibility to be conscious of the information and resources that are available to us because the knowledge and information about the new virus is evolving rapidly. Thus, information and recommendations change frequently. Threats like COVID-19 can lead to the circulation of misinformation, so it’s important to trust information only from reputable health organizations and government sources.
