In every workplace, right skills are needed in order to be successful and to succeed in the chosen profession. Aside from passion, skills help us to give the best possible service and output to the people who availed the services that we offer. As we start working, we tend to improve these skills and sometimes unconsciously gain more skills which helps us to be more efficient.
Being a VA is never easy. As what others would say, “You should be familiar with almost everything before you start working as a VA.” I definitely agree with that! From web researching to data gathering, from social media content creation to social media scheduling, from content writing to email marketing… you should be familiar with that. And in order to fully accomplish these tasks and be successful, you should have the right skills. My skills as a VA is my power to keep going. From my very first day working as a VA, I can say that my skills have improved and developed. I have my 3 best skills which somehow I consider as my weapon to success.
WEAPON #1: COMMUNICATION SKILLS
“Communication – the human connection – is the key to personal and career success.” Paul J.Meyer – One of the most important skills as a VA. Being able to efficiently communicate and express thoughts to create connection with the clients. And I can say that having good a communication skill is something which helps me to efficiently deliver my tasks. As a VA, I communicate to my clients thru emails and messages. Thus, it’s a must to be clear and concise to every message sent and to every question being asked. May it be verbally or non-verbally, I’m always glad to hear something from my clients. In addition, it’s not just about talking or exchanging messages. This skill also involves listening. As a VA, I make sure to listen thoroughly to every instruction given and ask if needed. Listening also helps to execute every task well and provide the best possible output to the client.
WEAPON#2: FLEXIBILITY
– When I started as a Virtual Assistant, I remember that I was assigned to be a content writer, writing blogs, and creating content for the client. But, as I go on with my work as a VA, I didn’t notice that I’m actually doing more than just writing. I actually stepped out of my box! I started to handle the client’s social media accounts, creating content and graphics, and scheduling posts. And to my surprise, I completed a task about e-mail marketing. It’s something I haven’t done before! As a virtual assistant, being flexible is very important. You never know what your client will ask from you. Thus, you should be ready enough to handle these challenging yet fulfilling tasks.
WEAPON #3 : ORGANISATION
– Handling multiple clients is never easy. There will always be a time wherein 2 or 3 clients will assign an urgent task. But because of my organisation skill, it helps me to manage my time and get the work done before the deadline. With the right organisation skill, I can decide which tasks should be prioritized first and make sure to hand-in accomplished tasks before the time is up. And with organisation skill, I am able to focus with every task to be accomplished.
Virtual Assistants can be considered as a virtual superhero. We are willing to accept every challenge to help each and every client. My skills are continuously improving and developing and this is all because of the tasks being assigned to me. And I am willing to take more challenges to see me grow and improve in this chosen field of mine. We all need the right skills to succeed!
