Going Down Memory Lane : The Wisdom I Gained from My Past Career

Updated: Aug 14, 2020

"Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” - Dalai Lama

Before joining Empowering Entrepreneurs I have been a Customer Service and Credit & Collections Specialist for a BPO Company for 3 years and I can say that I have grown a lot and have developed new skills within that time.

At first, I didn’t know what to expect in that said job, all I know is that I will be answering calls and I have to address all of the concerns of our customers. Little did I know that it wasn’t that simple, considering the fact that I will be doing it for 8-10 hours a day for 5 days straight attending to different types of customers with different concerns. At the beginning of my career, I was enjoying it a lot but then as the months have passed, I realized that it was starting to become a routine and that I didn’t have anything new to look forward to. That was when I started to reflect on myself and on what I really want to do with my life. I started to list down my long-term goals and plans as well as the things that gave me so much fulfillment in life. Knowing myself, I knew that I learned to love this job as I get so much happiness and fulfillment because I get to help others even in the simplest ways possible. But then there was also a thin line between that as well as what I was experiencing each day at work. After giving myself some time to think, I then realized that it was just a matter of changing my perspective and being dedicated to my work. I learned to focus on the more important things- my passion to help others, as well as my goals in life, and in doing so, I was able to grow and find that serenity within me.

Needless to say, in any field or career that you are in, it is important to have dedication and love for what you do. Dedication is important because it teaches us to focus on the more important things as well as what our responsibilities are than on the small things that might distract us from achieving our goals. In life, it’s not always good times and happy moments, there will always come a time where we feel unmotivated and stuck or even lost, but we just always have to remind ourselves of the reason why we do what we do, know our purpose and keep going because at the end of the day it is what will make us grow.
