The Choice for VAs: the Philippines

Our country is one of the faster-growing countries in terms of Virtual Assistants. Way back 2010 when I started as a Virtual Assistant, there were already about a hundred applicants for that one specific job – all from the Philippines.

Looking over various sites, Philippines always comes out on top of VA searches. As I celebrate a decade of my VA career this coming February, here are the top 5 reasons in no particular order I believe made us, Filipinos, the top choice for entrepreneurs, small businesses and professionals.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY When I set foot in grade school, English was already the medium of instruction that our teachers use. I can clearly remember the time we need to pay a peso for every non-English word we say. This probably is the explanation why we are good with English.

HARDWORKING Not only the locals working here but even our fellow Filipinos working abroad have been branded as hard workers. The dedication and passion we put in our work even if it is during holidays or in regular days have to extend long hours, our work ethic is superb.

RESPECTFUL I guess I have to credit this to our ancestors. My parents taught me at a very young age to always use kind and respectful words at home which later on extended to my school, community and to the work place. Even our culture says so much about us being respectful.

POSITIVE MINDSET Resilient as most of the time others would describe Filipinos. Whatever you throw at us, we see and find opportunities that would ease and make everything better. I could also attribute this to our being spiritual and faithful to our religion. At the end of the day, no matter how rough it is, we can smile and hope for a brand new day.

COMPETITIVE The passion towards what we do pushes us to always strive for the best. When we reach the top, we don’t settle down, we continue moving forward. If we reach a dead end, we’ll try and build a new one. If there’s a will, there’s a way.
